The Byre @ Camp Douglas

The Byre is at Glenlochar, just outside Castle Douglas. It's a converted barn. It shares a courtyard at the front with a couple of other buildings, but you get your own private garden at the back.

It sleeps six. Three bedrooms, two bathrooms. The main bedroom has its own bathroom. It's got a 4 Star rating. It's well finished and modern inside.

The garden is enclosed, which is good if you have a dog or kids. There's a summerhouse at the bottom. You can watch the sun go down over Loch Ken from there.

Castle Douglas is about five minutes drive. It's a handy little town. Good butchers, cafes, a co-op supermarket. Decent food shops.

The location is quiet. You're looking at fields and the loch. There's a Red Kite feeding station about a mile away. They feed the birds at 2pm. It's a good spectacle.

For getting out, you're fairly central. The Galloway Forest Dark Sky Park is about half an hour north. Good for stargazing. The National Trust for Scotland's Threave Garden is close by. Several of the 7Stanes mountain bike trails are within a 20-30 minute drive, at Kirroughtree and Dalbeattie forests.

The south coast, places like Sandyhills Beach, are about a 25 minute drive.

In terms of things here: it has a wood burning stove, dishwasher, washing machine, WiFi. Bedding and towels are included. There's parking right outside. You can bring one dog. The entrance is level and there are no steps to get inside.

If you're looking for more information on the area, VisitScotland's Galloway page is a good start.
