The Byre is our place, just outside Castle Douglas. It's a converted barn, so it's detached and sits on its own. You get a good view over the fields from the garden.
It sleeps six. Three bedrooms, two bathrooms. One bedroom and a toilet are upstairs on a sort of open gallery. The stairs have a glass rail, which looks nice but just be aware if you've got very small children. The other two bedrooms and the main living area are on the ground floor.
It's a 5 Star place, which means it's well kitted out and finished to a good standard. It's all open plan downstairs, with big doors that open onto the patio. We've put in a patio heater for the cooler evenings. It's very quiet out here, so the night skies can be really clear.
Castle Douglas is a few minutes drive away. It's a handy market town with shops and places to eat. There's a local circular walk that goes from the cottage right into town and back, about five miles in total. The area is good for walking and cycling generally.
You're well placed for getting around. The beaches at the Solway Coast are about half an hour away. Threave Garden is nearby if that's your thing. The Galloway Forest Park is close, which is a dark sky park. For mountain biking, the 7stanes trails at Dalbeattie and Kirroughtree are within easy reach.
In terms of what's here: there's a washing machine, dishwasher, TV, and WiFi. Bedding and towels are included. We can provide a cot and highchair. There's parking. The garden is yours to use, and there's a barbecue. It's accessible at the entrance. We allow up to two dogs.
If you need more space, we also have Lime Tree Lodge next door. The two together can sleep eight.
