Barncailzie Lodge is near the village of Springholm. It's a detached lodge, so no one attached to you. It's set back from the road in a rural spot next to a working farm.
It sleeps four people, in three bedrooms. There are two bathrooms, which is handy. It's got a 4 Star rating. It's well kept and comfortable, nothing too fancy but it's all there.
Springholm itself has a village shop and a pub, just a few minutes down the road. For bigger shops, Castle Douglas is about a fifteen minute drive. That's the proper food town for the area. Dumfries is maybe twenty-five minutes.
The location is good for getting out. You've got Mabie Forest nearby for walking and the mountain bike trails. The Caerlaverock Estate is great for flat walks and birdwatching. If you're into golf, the championship course at Southerness is within half an hour.
Inside, you've got a woodburning stove for cooler nights. There's a dishwasher and a washing machine. The garden is private with a patio and a BBQ. The parking is right there. Bedding and towels are included. Sorry, no pets.
For planning trips, the Forestry and Land Scotland site has good info on the local trails.
