Arkland Mill is a cottage on the Crofts Estate near Corsock. It's detached, so you're on your own. The garden is good sized. There's a summerhouse and a bridge over the stream that runs by.
It sleeps six. Four bedrooms, three bathrooms. The rating is 4 Star. That's accurate. It's comfortable and well looked after.
The drive in is private and you're surrounded by estate land, about 3000 acres of it. The view from the front is across to the Solway Firth and the Cumbrian hills. You get a real sense of space.
There's a village shop and a pub about four miles away in Glenkiln. Both are fine for the basics.
For a bigger shop, Castle Douglas is about a 15 minute drive. It's a market town with good local food shops. Dumfries is about 25 minutes the other way. That's where you'll find supermarkets, more restaurants, and museums like the one about Robert Burns.
You're on the edge of the Galloway Hills. There are walks straight from the door on estate tracks. The Galloway Forest Park is about half an hour's drive if you want proper forest. The Solway coast has beaches, maybe a 25 minute drive. Threave Garden, which is National Trust, is about 20 minutes away. For birdwatchers, the Galloway Kite Trail is nearby.
Facilities: It's got the washing machine, dishwasher, TV. There's a woodburning stove for cooler nights. Bedding and towels are included. Parking is right there. You can bring up to two dogs.
