This is Stables Cottage. It's on the Crofts Estate in Corsock. The estate is quite big, about 3000 acres. You drive down a private track to get there. The views are good, out over the hills towards the Solway Firth.
It's small, just for two people. One bedroom and one bathroom. It's got a 4 Star rating. The place is warm and dry, and it's been done up nicely inside. There are some proper paintings on the walls by Scottish artists, which is a bit different.
It's part of a little group of estate buildings. Gardener's Cottage is next door. You get your own privacy though.
You can walk straight out from the door onto estate paths. They go into the woods and up the hills. It's very quiet.
The nearest village shop and pub is about four miles away in either Corsock or Dalry. For a bigger shop, Castle Douglas isn't far. It's a proper market town with good food shops. Dumfries is about twelve miles. That's where you'll find supermarkets, more restaurants, and things like the theatre.
If you want a day out, the coast and some beaches are about half an hour's drive. Threave Garden is close and worth a look. The Galloway Forest Park is a short drive for walking or stargazing.
For facilities: there's parking right outside. It has a wood burning stove, a TV, and a washing machine. We can provide a cot and highchair if you need them. One well-behaved dog is welcome.
