Cowar Bothy is in Hardgate, which is a few miles from Dalbeattie. It's a single-storey cottage from the outside, but it's got an upstairs bedroom. You're on your own here, just you and the fields. The garden's enclosed.
It's for two people. One bedroom with a big bed, and the shower room is right there next to it. It's got a 4 Star rating. We redid the whole place in 2022, so everything's clean and new. It's very warm, even in winter. The main room has a wood burner.
The kitchen's part of that main room. It's got a dishwasher and a washing machine. There's a TV and the WiFi is decent. We include all the bedding and towels.
You're about two miles from the closest pub and restaurant in Dalbeattie. The town has shops for what you need. Castle Douglas is a bit further, maybe 15 minutes in the car. They call it a food town, lots of good butchers and delis.
The coast isn't far. Beaches like Rockcliffe and Kippford are about a 20-minute drive. Sandy beaches, some rocky bits. Good for a walk.
If you're here for mountain biking, the Dalbeattie Forest trails are very close. They're part of the 7Stanes. For walking, you've got the forest paths or the coastal routes. Threave Garden, which is a National Trust for Scotland site, is nearby. There are castles around too, like Caerlaverock.
You can bring two dogs. There's parking right outside. No other buildings are attached, so it's quiet.
