Waterwheel is about a mile outside Dalbeattie. It's an apartment, one of three converted from old mill buildings. It sits right next to the Dalbeattie Burn, so you get the sound of the river.
It sleeps two. One bedroom, one bathroom. It's a 4 Star place, so it's comfortable and in good order. You park right outside your door.
The main thing is the garden. It's shared with the other two properties, but it's big and landscaped with the river running through. There are plenty of spots to sit. We see herons and dippers regularly. If you're really lucky, you might spot a kingfisher or a red squirrel.
Dalbeattie itself is a small town. There's a local shop and a couple of pubs that do food. For a bigger shop, Castle Douglas is about a 15 minute drive.
The area is good for walking and cycling straight from the door. The 7Stanes mountain bike trails in Dalbeattie Forest are on the doorstep if that's your thing. For a nice coastal walk, you can drive to Kippford in about 10 minutes and walk the Jubilee Path to Rockcliffe. The Solway coast has sandy beaches and quiet harbours like that.
Within half an hour you can be at Threave Gardens or Caerlaverock Castle. Kirkcudbright is a bit further, maybe 40 minutes, but it's a nice artist's town with a harbour.
In the apartment you've got a washing machine, TV, and bedding and towels are included. There's bike storage if you need it. Sorry, no pets.
