Waterwheel

This place is called Waterwheel. It's one of three cottages here, all old mills that have been done up. It's an apartment for two people, and it looks right out over the Dalbeattie Burn.

It's a 4 Star rating, which means it's comfortable. Everything's open plan downstairs. There's one bedroom and one bathroom upstairs. You get your own bit of patio and garden to sit in, and there's parking right outside.

The main thing is the setting. It's very quiet, down in a wooded valley with the river running past. You can sit out and you'll see birds like herons and dippers. If you're lucky, you might spot a kingfisher or a red squirrel. The gardens are shared with the other cottages but they're big, so there are plenty of spots to sit by yourself.

The town of Dalbeattie is a short drive away. It's got shops and a couple of pubs. For a proper day out, you're close to the Solway Coast. There are sandy beaches and little villages like Kippford and Rockcliffe. You can walk the Jubilee Path between them.

If you like cycling, the 7Stanes mountain bike trails in Dalbeattie Forest are right on the doorstep. They're very well known. For garden lovers, Threave Garden is about a 25 minute drive. Historic Caerlaverock Castle is roughly half an hour away.

Inside, it's got a TV, a washing machine, and bedding and towels are included. There's bike storage if you need it. No pets, I'm afraid.

You can book it with the other two cottages next door if you're in a bigger group.
