Craigrannoch Cottage

Craigrannoch Cottage is in Rockcliffe, on a quiet single-track road. It looks onto a big meadow owned by the National Trust that goes down to the sea. The cottage is made of local granite and sits next to my house, but it's completely separate with its own garden.

It's for two people. One bedroom, one bathroom. It's got a 4 Star rating, which means it's comfortable and properly fitted out. You're welcome to bring one dog.

The best thing is the walking. Turn right out of the little gate and you're on Rockcliffe beach in two minutes. It's sand and rocks, safe for swimming. You can follow the cliff path from there for miles. Turn left and you're on the Jubilee Path through the woods to Kippford village, which has a cafe and a couple of pubs. When the tide's out, you can walk across to Rough Island, which is a bird sanctuary.

For biking, you're right on the forest tracks for the Seven Stanes trails. There's bike storage and a washing spot here.

The garden is enclosed with a picket fence. We can make it higher if you have a dog that's a jumper, just ask. The meadow next door is good for letting them off the lead.

Inside, there's a woodburning stove, TV, wifi, and a washing machine. Bedding and towels are included. There's a cot and highchair if you need them. Parking is right outside.

For days out, Castle Douglas, Kirkcudbright and Gatehouse of Fleet are close by. The RSPB reserve at Mersehead is nearby for birdwatching. There's an 18-hole golf course about four miles away.
