This is Rose Cottage. It's on our small farm in Caulkerbush, about a mile off the main road up a private track. It's very quiet here, just us and the other cottage next door.
It sleeps four, in two bedrooms. Both bedrooms have their own bathroom, which is handy. It's got a 4 Star rating. It's a restored barn, part old granite and part newer timber. It's well insulated and always has central heating, so it's warm even in winter. There's a wood burner too.
The stairs are a standard turn, not especially steep. The garden is enclosed. You can park right outside.
We're about six miles from the nearest shop and pub, so you'll need a car. The Solway coast is close, maybe a ten minute drive. For a proper mountain bike day out, the Dalbeattie 7stanes site is about the same.
Dumfries is about 25 minutes away if you need a bigger town. It's got the Robert Burns stuff if you're interested. There are a couple of golf courses within ten minutes driving. You can see red kites and squirrels around the farm itself. If we're doing something with the animals and you'd like to watch or have a go, just ask. We're usually around.
Inside, there's a washing machine, dishwasher, TV, and WiFi. Bedding and towels are included. We can provide a cot and highchair. No pets, sorry.
If you're planning trips, the Galloway Forest Park is a big draw, especially for the dark skies. The National Trust for Scotland has good information for the area as well.
