Trefoil Treat is our cottage in Rhonehouse, just outside Castle Douglas. It's semi-detached, on a little lane. You drive through some big wooden gates to get to it. We had the whole place redone a couple of years ago.
It's for four people. Two bedrooms upstairs and a shower room. There's a hall landing upstairs with a chair, which is a nice spot for a quiet read if you want to get away from everyone else for a bit. The stairs are normal, not too steep.
Downstairs is open plan, with the kitchen at one end. It's a galley kitchen, but it's got a dishwasher and a washing machine. Everything's included, bedding, towels, the lot. The garden is enclosed, so it's fine for a dog. We take one dog.
Rhonehouse itself is quiet. It's a couple of miles from Castle Douglas, which is a proper market town. Good butchers, nice cafes, that sort of thing. You can walk into town if you're feeling energetic, it goes past Threave Garden. National Trust Scotland Threave Garden.
From here, you're about half an hour from the coast. Sandy beaches at places like Sandyhills. Kirkcudbright is a lovely harbour town to poke around. The Galloway Forest Park is close if you like walking, or if you're into the mountain biking trails at Dalbeattie. The Visit Southern Scotland site has good information.
It's a 4 Star rating, so it's comfortable. The entrance is level and there's a stairgate, which helps. There's parking right there.
