Kiln Cottage is our place in Rye. It's a one-bedroom cottage for two people. You'd be on the edge of the town, about a six minute walk from the centre.
It's got a 3 Star rating. That means it's clean, warm and works, but it's not a luxury hotel. The bed is a double. The shower is electric. The layout is open-plan downstairs.
There's a small, enclosed garden out the back with a patio and a barbecue. We let it get a bit wild, so it's private. You can park right outside the front door.
Rye is the main thing here. It's a proper old town with cobbled streets and medieval buildings. You can wander for hours. There are a lot of pubs and restaurants. The Mermaid Inn is famous, but it gets busy. The Ypres Castle Inn has a good beer garden with views.
If you want the beach, Camber Sands is about a ten minute drive. It's a big sandy beach. For a walk, Rye Harbour Nature Reserve is close. It's flat and good for birdwatching.
Further out, you've got Bodiam Castle, which is a National Trust site about twenty minutes drive. Sissinghurst Castle Garden is about half an hour. Hastings is fifteen minutes along the coast.
Facilities: there's Wi-Fi, a TV, towels and bedding are included. We take one well-behaved dog. There's a washing machine in the kitchen.
