Curlew

Curlew is on Anglesey, in a hamlet called Llanfihangel yn Nhowyn. It's a converted farm building, on its own, just up from a lake. The view out the front is over water and the RSPB reserve. Out the back, you're looking straight at Snowdonia.

It sleeps two, one bedroom upstairs. It's got a 5 Star rating. It's open plan downstairs, with a wood burner. The kitchen's new and has what you need. The shower is a good, walk-in one. The stairs up to the bedroom are a proper, full-size staircase. The bedroom's in the eaves though, so taller people need to watch their heads on the beams.

There's a lawned garden. You get a great view of the sunrise over the lake and the sunset behind the mountains. Because it's so dark here, on a clear night the stars are incredible.

The track up to the cottage is a farm track. It's uneven and can be a bit bumpy, but it's fine if you take it slow.

The RSPB Valley Wetlands reserve is right next door. We've recorded over 80 types of bird here. You get lapwings, curlews, owls. There are stoats in the garden walls, and otters have been seen in the lake. If we're doing moth trapping in the evening, you're welcome to come and have a look.

There's a footpath right outside. If you head north, you're straight into the RSPB reserve. If you head south, you can walk to Rhosneigr in about 40 minutes. That's where the big beach is, good for surfing. By car, Rhosneigr and Trearddur Bay beaches are about 15 minutes away.

The local shop is about a mile. The pub is two miles, and there's a restaurant about a mile and a half away. RAF Valley is nearby. You often see the Hawk trainers, and sometimes the Red Arrows, flying from there.

For a day out, Beaumaris is about 25 minutes drive. It's got the castle and a nice front. Holyhead and the breakwater country park are about half an hour. The main thing is you're close to everything on Anglesey, and you can see Snowdonia from the window.

What's here: wood burner, BBQ, bike storage, garden, TV, WiFi, washing machine, all bedding and towels, parking. No pets.
