Lapwing

This is Lapwing Cottage. It's on our farm in a place called Llanfihangel yn Nhowyn, Anglesey. You get to it down our farm track, which is a bit bumpy.

It sleeps three. There are two bedrooms and one bathroom. It's all on one level. We got the 5 Star rating because we fitted it out well. It's clean and comfortable.

The building used to be part of the farm. It's got a wood burner inside, which is good for colder nights. The ceilings are high with some beams showing. The garden is yours to use and it looks out over fields towards Snowdonia. The sunrises and sunsets are very good from here.

Because it's so rural, the night skies are dark. On a clear night you can see loads of stars. We're right next to the RSPB Valley Wetlands reserve. We see a lot of birds from the cottage, like lapwings and owls. If you're interested, we sometimes do moth trapping in the evenings and guests can join in.

There's a public footpath right outside. It leads up to the RSPB reserve one way, or you can walk to Rhosneigr beach the other way. That takes about 40 minutes on foot. By car, Rhosneigr is less than 15 minutes away. It's a big beach, good for surfing. There are shops and cafés there.

Other places within about half an hour's drive: you've got Holyhead and the port for Ireland. Beaumaris is a nice town with a castle. You can drive into Snowdonia easily from here. National Trust Wales and the Anglesey Coastal Path sites are useful for planning walks.

Facilities: there's parking right outside. WiFi, TV, washing machine. Bedding and towels are included. You can bring one dog. There's a barbecue and bike storage. Because it's all on the ground floor and has a walk-in shower, it suits people who find stairs difficult.

There's another cottage here called Curlew. You can book both together if you need more space.
