The Heron is in Ardentinny, on Loch Long. It’s a detached cottage, just across the lane from the water. You get a clear view straight down the loch from the main room.
It sleeps four, in two bedrooms. One bathroom. It's a 4 Star place, so it’s comfortable and well kept. You can bring two dogs.
The cottage used to be the village tea rooms. Now it's just a house. The front room is good sized, with a woodburner. There's a garden out the back. Parking is right there.
You’re about 25 yards from the shore. You can walk along it, or launch a canoe if you have one. I’ve seen seals from the window, and red squirrels in the trees. Dolphins do come up the loch, but you need a bit of luck for that.
The Argyll Forest starts literally behind the cottage. There are forest tracks and walks right from the door. No driving needed if you just want a proper walk.
The nearest shop and pub is about four miles away, in the next village. Dunoon is a bit further, maybe a 20 minute drive. It’s a proper town with supermarkets, a few restaurants, and a cinema.
If you want a day out, Benmore Botanic Gardens is spectacular, especially the avenue of redwoods. It’s about a 15 minute drive. You're in the Loch Lomond and Trossachs National Park, so the whole area is good for exploring. Glencoe is about an hour and a half if you fancy a longer trip.
Facilities are all there: WiFi, TV with some satellite channels, washing machine, highchair. Bedding and towels are included. There’s a woodburner and they provide some logs to start you off.
