Fern Cottage is in Ardentinny, right on the shore of Loch Long. It's a listed building, so the walls are thick stone and the stairs are the original cast-iron and wood ones. They're a bit narrow and steep, like you'd expect.
It sleeps four, two bedrooms. One bathroom. It's got a 4 Star rating. We've kept the old features but put in proper beds and a decent kitchen. There's a woodburning stove for cooler evenings. The garden is enclosed.
You're literally 15 yards from the lochside. There's a private mooring if you have a boat, or you can just sit by the water. You can fish from the shore. The Argyll Forest starts just behind the cottage, so you can walk or cycle straight from the door.
Ardentinny itself is quiet, just a few houses. There's a local pub. For shops and more places to eat, Dunoon is about a 20 minute drive. The Benmore Botanic Gardens are nearby and are worth a visit. The whole area is part of the Loch Lomond & The Trossachs National Park.
You can get a ferry from nearby Portavadie over to Tarbert on the Kintyre peninsula. From there you can get other ferries to islands like Arran.
Facilities: WiFi, TV, dishwasher, washing machine, bike storage. Bedding and towels are included. There's a cot and highchair. We accept up to two dogs. The view is of the loch.
