Beech House

Beech House is a bungalow on a working croft near Fort William. It's my family's place, we've farmed here for a long time. The house is big and light, built in the 80s and then extended. It sleeps ten, with five bedrooms and five bathrooms, and each room has its own shower. It's good for two families, or a big group.

The main thing is the view. You look straight out across the Caledonian Canal to Ben Nevis. You can see it from the big covered deck at the front. There's a hot tub under cover too, so you can use it in the rain. The barbecue area is covered as well.

You're on a farm, so there will be sheep and maybe some cattle in the fields. It's quiet. The house has a 4 Star rating. It's comfortable and well-equipped, not overly fancy. Everything's on one level, which is useful.

You're five miles from Fort William, so you can get supplies easily. There's a shop and a pub about two miles away. For walking, you're right on the edge of everything. The Great Glen Way is nearby. Glen Nevis is close for lower-level walks by the river. If you want to climb the Ben, the main path starts a short drive away.

If you're into mountain biking, the world championship trails are at Nevis Range. You can get the gondola up there for the views, even if you're not skiing or biking. Glencoe is about forty minutes south by car. For a good day trip, drive to Mallaig and get the ferry over to Skye. Or take the steam train from Fort William, the one they used in the Harry Potter films.

Inside, there's a woodburning stove, a TV, WiFi, and the usual things: washing machine, dishwasher, cot and highchair if you need them. All bedding and towels are included. You can bring up to two dogs. There's an enclosed garden and a play area for kids.
