Lapwing Rise is a bungalow in Banavie. It's at the foot of Ben Nevis, on a working croft. The views out of the front are good. You look over the Caledonian Canal straight at the mountain and the ski range.
It's detached, so no neighbours on the other side of a wall. Sleeps eight in four double rooms, and each bedroom has its own bathroom. That's a plus with a full house. It's got a 4 Star rating. The layout is all on the ground floor, which is handy.
There's a hot tub on the patio. I find it's nice in the evenings, especially if you've been out walking.
You're not in the middle of nowhere. There's a pub and a restaurant you can walk to, about five minutes down the lane. The local shop is a bit further, maybe a fifteen minute walk. Fort William is four miles away for bigger shops, a swimming pool, and more places to eat.
In the summer, the West Highland steam train goes past on its way to Mallaig. You can hear it chugging by, not right next to the house but you'll see it. It's the one from the Harry Potter films.
The place is set up for being outdoors. You can walk straight onto paths. Skiing, climbing, riding the gondola up Aonach Mor, it's all on the doorstep. Fort William calls itself the outdoor capital, and it's not wrong. Glencoe is about twenty minutes south.
You're well placed for day trips. Loch Ness is just over an hour. For a proper remote drive, the Ardnamurchan Peninsula is stunning.
Facilities wise: it's got a washing machine, dishwasher, wood burner, parking right outside, and an enclosed garden. WiFi works. You can bring two dogs.
