Birch Lodge is near Tomacharich, just outside Fort William. It's one of three lodges here. You're right on the Caledonian Canal, so you get a really good view of Ben Nevis and the mountains from the windows. The view is the main thing.
It's a one-bedroom lodge for two people. It's got a 3 Star rating. It's comfortable and clean. The bed's made up for you when you arrive. There's a bathroom, a kitchen with a washing machine, and parking right outside.
You can bring two dogs. The reason we mention that is because the Great Glen Way footpath runs right past the property. It's a proper path, so it's brilliant for dog walking straight from the door. You're also about 220 yards from our house if you need anything.
The nearest pub that does food is about two miles away. The proper shop is in Caol, about three miles. Fort William is ten minutes by car. That's where the big supermarkets and more restaurants are. They call it the Outdoor Capital, which is about right. You can get to Glencoe, Glenfinnan, and places like that easily.
If you're into steam trains, the Jacobite runs from Fort William to Mallaig in the season. It goes over the Glenfinnan viaduct. You can drive to the viaduct to see it, or get on the train.
For longer trips, you're in a good spot. You can get to the Isle of Skye in about an hour and a half. Inverness and Loch Ness are about an hour and forty minutes the other way. Oban is a bit over an hour south.
