Birkend Farmhouse

Birkend Farmhouse is in Crackpot, up one of the small side valleys off Swaledale. It's detached, and the setting is very quiet. The views from the garden are really good, straight down the dale.

It sleeps six, with three bedrooms and two bathrooms. It's a 4 Star place, so it's well kept and comfortable. One of the bedrooms is downstairs, and you get to it through its own staircase from the dining room. It's just how the old farmhouse was laid out.

The garden is a proper feature. There's a wild flower meadow with a summerhouse in it, plus patios and a deck. All of them face the view. Inside, there are beams and a multi-fuel stove. It has underfloor heating on the ground floor.

Reeth is the nearest village, about a ten minute drive. It has a couple of pubs that do food, a shop, a post office and a bakery. For a bigger shop, Richmond or Leyburn are about twenty five minutes away.

You can walk straight from the door onto the footpaths. For a day out, Richmond has the castle and the Georgian Theatre. English Heritage info for Richmond Castle is here. Hawes, over in Wensleydale, is about forty minutes by car.

The facilities are all there: WiFi, a washing machine, dishwasher, parking. Bedding and towels are included. We can take one well-behaved dog.

If you're planning walks or drives, the Yorkshire Dales National Park site is useful.
