West Lodge is a cottage in Stainton. It's on a private estate called Streatlam Park, near Barnard Castle. The main thing is the view. It looks out over fields and countryside.
It's a detached stone cottage. Sleeps four. Two bedrooms: one with a super king bed, the other with adult-sized bunk beds. They share a Jack and Jill shower room, which means you can go in from either bedroom. There's one bathroom in total.
The living room has a wood burner, which is nice in the colder months. There's a smart TV and WiFi. The kitchen has a dishwasher. Outside, there's a gravelled patio with seating and a barbecue. You can park right by the cottage.
It's a 4 Star rated place. That means it's well-equipped and comfortable. Bedding and towels are included. We allow one well-behaved dog.
Barnard Castle town is about ten minutes by car. It's a proper market town with shops, pubs, and a castle. The Bowes Museum is there, which is worth a visit.
If you like walking, you're right on the edge of the North Pennines. High Force waterfall is about a twenty minute drive. It's impressive. You can walk sections of the Teesdale Way from here without having to drive. For a longer trip, the Yorkshire Dales and the Lake District are both within an hour and a half.
