Ashlea Startforth

Ashlea is our cottage. It's on our farm in Startforth, just outside Barnard Castle in County Durham. It's detached, so you're on your own. The views are over the fields towards Eggleston. It's quiet.

It sleeps four. Two bedrooms, one double and one twin. One bathroom with a good shower. It's all on one level, so no stairs. We've given it a 4 Star rating. It's comfortable and clean.

The main room has a wood burner. The kitchen is open plan with a dining area. There's a conservatory that looks straight out into the garden. It's a nice spot to sit.

The heating is from our biomass boiler. We burn wood chip from our own timber. We can arrange electric car charging if you need it, for a small extra cost.

There's a public footpath right behind the cottage. You can follow it along the Deepdale River into Barnard Castle, which is about a twenty-minute walk. The ruins of the castle are there, and the Bowes Museum is well worth a visit.

For a day out, Hamsterley Forest is about a twenty-minute drive. Good for walking and cycling. The North Pennines are right on the doorstep for bigger walks. High Force waterfall is about half an hour away by car.

You've got a washing machine, dishwasher, TV, and WiFi. The garden is enclosed. Bedding and towels are included. We can provide a cot and highchair. There's bike storage. Sorry, no pets.

The nearest shop and pub are about two miles away in Barnard Castle. They have weekly markets and plenty of places to eat.
