Mill Force Cottage is next to our house in Bowes. It's a single-storey place, so all on the ground floor. It sleeps two, in one bedroom with an en-suite bathroom.
It's got a 3 Star rating. It's clean and comfortable. The doorways are wide and there's a ramp at the entrance, so it's suitable for wheelchairs.
You have your own garden area to the side. It looks out over a wild meadow where we keep our pigs. They're friendly. There are also chickens roaming about in the yard. Past the cottage there's a camping field. You're welcome to go and sit up there with a picnic, the sunsets over the Pennines are very good.
The village pub is about a hundred yards away. They do food. There's a shop about five miles away in Barnard Castle.
Bowes itself has the ruins of a 12th century castle keep you can walk to. Barnard Castle is the nearest proper town, about ten minutes by car. It's got a medieval castle, a market, and the Bowes Museum which is full of art. The Bowes Museum is worth a look.
You're right on the edge of the Yorkshire Dales and the North Pennines. High Force waterfall is about a twenty minute drive. Raby Castle is about fifteen minutes away. For walking information, the Yorkshire Dales National Park and North Pennines AONB sites are useful.
Inside, there's a washing machine, WiFi, a TV, and storage for bikes. Bedding and towels are included. We can provide a cot if needed. There's parking right outside.
