Swan Cottage
Swan Cottage is in Barnard Castle, on a quiet side street. It's a two bedroom place, sleeps four. One bathroom. You can walk into the town centre in a few minutes.
It's got a 4 Star rating. The finish is nice, the furniture is decent. It's clean and works well.
The living room has a woodburning stove. There's a small patio garden out the back. You get a view of the river from the front.
Facilities: WiFi, towels and bedding are provided, there's a dishwasher and a washing machine. No pets.
Barnard Castle itself is a good market town. Lots of independent shops and a few decent pubs. There's a weekly farmers' market. The Bowes Museum is a five minute walk away and well worth seeing. The castle ruins are nearby too.
For walking, you can follow the River Tees straight from the doorstep. The countryside around here is very good.
If you drive, Raby Castle is about fifteen minutes away. High Force waterfall is about half an hour. Hamsterley Forest is good for cycling and is roughly twenty five minutes. Durham city is under forty minutes. The Yorkshire Dales and the Lake District are both within an hour and a half if you fancy a longer trip.
