The Byre

The Byre is a converted cattle shed next to our farm. The farm's still going, so you'll see sheep and cows in the fields. It's very quiet. You're just outside Eggleston village.

It's for two people. One bedroom, one bathroom. It's all on one level with wide doors. We've tried to make it eco-friendly. The roof tiles generate our own electricity. There's a wood burner for heat and a bit of atmosphere.

Inside it's open plan. Kitchen, living area, and the bedroom's through an archway. It's simple and clean. We've given it a 4 Star rating. It has the basics: TV, dishwasher, washing machine. Bedding and towels are included. There's bike storage if you bring them. You can bring one dog.

There's a pub in the village, about a mile's walk down the lane. It's a proper local. The nearest shop for groceries is in Middleton-in-Teesdale, about five miles drive.

Barnard Castle is about six miles away. It's a nice little town on the River Tees with the castle and a decent museum. For a bigger day out, Durham is roughly 25 miles. The cathedral is worth seeing.

You're in a good spot for the North Pennines. It's all walking country from the door. If you want to drive, you can get to the edge of the Yorkshire Dales in under half an hour. The Lake District and Northumberland are both about an hour or so.
