The School House

The School House is in Middleton-in-Teesdale. It's a village, so you've got pubs and a shop basically on the doorstep, about fifty yards away. The place is detached, which is nice, and it's right next to the church. It used to be the actual village school house.

It's for two people. One bedroom, one bathroom. It's got a 4 Star rating. There's a woodburning stove, which is good for cooler nights, and the garden is enclosed so it's secure if you bring a dog. We allow one well-behaved pet.

You're right on the Pennine Way here. If you walk from the door for about fifteen, twenty minutes, you get to Low Force. That's the first waterfall on the Tees. It's a good walk.

Barnard Castle is a short drive. The Bowes Museum is there, it's a big French-style chateau with art and things. Really worth seeing. Eggleston Hall Gardens are nearby too, nice for a stroll.

If you fish, you can get a permit for the River Tees. There's also sailing and fishing up at Grassholme and Selset reservoirs.

The Lake District is about forty-five minutes by car if you fancy a day trip.

In the house you've got a washing machine, dishwasher, wifi, and the usual things. Bedding and towels are included. There's bike storage if you need it.

For planning walks or days out, these sites are useful: National Trust North East and the official North York Moors National Park site. We're on the edge of the park here.
