Dales Chapel is what it sounds like. It's an old Methodist chapel in Middleton-in-Teesdale that we converted. It sleeps fourteen, which is why we got it. Sometimes you need a place for a big group.
There are six bedrooms and four bathrooms upstairs. The main thing is the top floor. That's the original chapel space. All the original windows and that ornate ceiling are still there. We've put in a big snooker table, a football table, a large TV, and a bar area. There are two seating sections with wood burners. It works well for family get-togethers. We've also had small companies use it for meetings. You can hook a laptop up to the projector screen.
The stairs are stone and a bit steep in places. It's a listed building, so that's how it is.
You're right in the village. There’s a shop about twenty yards away. A pub that does food is about fifty yards. It’s straightforward.
For walking, the Pennine Way goes through the village. It’s about half an hour on foot to Low Force waterfall. High Force, which is the biggest single-drop waterfall in England, is a short drive away. The North Pennines National Landscape site has good maps if you're planning routes.
Within about half an hour’s drive you’ve got Barnard Castle. The Bowes Museum is there. Killhope Lead Mine is interesting if you like that sort of thing. Bishop Auckland is where the Kynren outdoor show is on in summer.
Facilities: it’s all included. Washing machine, dishwasher, bedding and towels. There’s a fully enclosed garden with a BBQ. Wi-Fi works. You can bring up to two dogs.
