Buckswell Cottage is on our farm in Hury. It's a detached stone cottage on the hillside, looking south over Hury Reservoir. The view is the main thing. You can see it from the living room and the bedroom.
It's for two people. One bedroom, one bathroom. The bathroom is a wet room on the ground floor. It's got a 3 Star rating. It's comfortable and clean, but it's a proper old cottage. The ceilings are low in the porch and the kitchen area. If you're very tall, mind your head.
You're on a working upland farm. You'll see sheep. It's very quiet. The road up here is a single track.
The cottage has a woodburning stove, a dishwasher, and a washing machine. There's an enclosed patio with a barbecue. You can park right outside. We allow up to two dogs. Bedding and towels are included.
The nearest shop is about five miles away in Middleton-in-Teesdale. The nearest pub is about four miles. For a good meal, the Rose and Crown in Romaldkirk is solid. Middleton has a couple of cafes and a chip shop.
If you like walking, you're right on it. The Pennine Way goes past the farm. You can walk all around the reservoirs. For birdwatching, it's good. You might see curlews or lapwings.
You can fly fish on Hury Reservoir. There's sailing at Grassholme Reservoir, which is close by. High Force waterfall is about a ten minute drive away.
Barnard Castle is the main town, about a 20 minute drive. It's got the castle ruins and The Bowes Museum. In the other direction, you've got Raby Castle. Both are within half an hour.
