Buckswell Cottage is a detached stone cottage on our working farm. It's just for two people. You're next to Hury Reservoir so the views are mainly of water and the hills.
It's got a three star rating, which means it's clean and comfortable. It's not a luxury place, but it's solid and warm. The main room is open plan with a woodburning stove. The wet room is on the ground floor, which is handy. There's a proper shower in there, not just a hand-held one.
You've got your own garden with a picnic table and a BBQ. The parking is right next to the cottage.
Being on a farm, you'll see sheep. Occasionally you might get a bit of farm noise, like a tractor. It's remote up here. The nearest proper shop is in Middleton-in-Teesdale, about five miles. The nearest pub with food is about four miles away in Romaldkirk.
If you like walking, you're sorted. The Pennine Way goes right past the farm. You can walk around Hury Reservoir from the door, and on to Blackton and Balderhead if you want a longer hike. Birdwatchers come here for curlews and lapwings.
For fishing, you can get a day permit for Hury Reservoir. Grassholme Reservoir is nearby if you fancy sailing. High Force waterfall is about a twenty minute drive. It's worth seeing.
Barnard Castle town is a fifteen minute drive. It's got the usual shops and a few places to eat. The Bowes Museum is there, which is a big attraction. Raby Castle is about half an hour away.
Inside, you've got a washing machine, dishwasher, wifi and a TV. Bedding and towels are included. We allow up to two dogs. There's bike storage if you need it.
