Martock town is under a mile away. It's got the usual shops and a few cafes. The buildings are that local Ham stone.
For a day out, there are some good National Trust houses nearby. Montacute House is probably the most famous. Barrington Court and Lytes Cary Manor are also within about half an hour's drive.
Yeovil and Crewkerne are 15 minutes away if you need bigger shops or a cinema.
