Kingfisher Lodge is in Halwill Junction, which is in North Devon near the Cornwall border. It’s one of six lodges set around some fishing lakes in 14 acres of land. Ours is detached and sleeps six.
There are three bedrooms and two bathrooms. It’s a 4 Star lodge, which means it's fairly new and well equipped. Everything is on one level, so there are no stairs. The main living area is open plan. Outside, there's a private covered deck area that looks out towards the lakes.
The site is quiet and you'll see wildlife. We get kingfishers, buzzards, and deer. You can fish in the lakes if you want to, it's included. The village shop, a pub, and a chippy are about half a mile away for basics.
For a bigger shop, Holsworthy is seven miles. Roadford Reservoir is about a 20 minute drive. You can sail or walk there, and there's a cafe. The north coast around Bude and Widemouth Bay is about 17 miles away, so roughly half an hour. Good for surfing and coastal walks.
Dartmoor National Park is within a 30 minute drive to the east. Dingles Fairground is also nearby if you have children.
Facilities: it's got a dishwasher, washing machine, TV, and wifi. Bedding and towels are included. There's on-site parking. The deck is wheelchair accessible. You can bring up to two dogs. We have a cot and highchair if needed.
