The Bield

The Bield is an old sandstone house in Aberfoyle, on the edge of Loch Lomond and the Trossachs National Park. It used to be a guest house. We’ve kept a lot of that feel, so it's set up for groups. It sleeps fourteen.

It’s a big place. Seven bedrooms, six bathrooms. Four of the bathrooms are en-suite. That’s handy with that many people. There are two living rooms, both with open fires. The kitchen is large, with a table in it. The garden is enclosed and has a hot tub. You can park six cars on the drive.

There are a few things to know. The stairs are carpeted and quite typical for a house this age. The boiler is in a cupboard in the main hallway, so you’ll hear it come on. The Wi-Fi works, but it’s not super-fast broadband, you’re in a village.

Aberfoyle itself is small. There’s a shop for basics and a couple of pubs that do food. You’re right on the edge of the national park so you can walk from the door. Loch Ard is a five-minute drive away for an easier, flatter walk or cycle. Loch Katrine is about a twenty-minute drive. You can get a steamship cruise there, which is a good day out.

If you want to go further, Stirling and its castle are about half an hour’s drive. Glasgow is under an hour. Edinburgh is a bit over an hour.

For facilities, it’s all included. Bedding, towels, heating, electricity. There’s a washing machine, dishwasher, cot and highchair. No pets, sorry.
