Craigmuick Cottage

Craigmuick Cottage is in Aberfoyle, right in the middle of Queen Elizabeth Forest Park. To get there, you drive through Loch Lomond and the Trossachs National Park, then turn onto a forestry track. The track has a metal gate and some potholes, so you need to take it steady. It's a five bedroom cottage, sleeps ten, with four bathrooms. It's got a 4 Star rating.

The place is from the 1800s and was once owned by a Scottish poet. It's been done up to a good standard. The main living area is open plan, with a stone fireplace that has an Aga wood burner in it. The kitchen has a range cooker. There's a separate utility room, which is useful for wet coats and boots. One of the bedrooms is on the ground floor and has its own shower room. Upstairs, there are four more bedrooms, two with en-suites, and a big family bathroom.

There's a TV room that also works as a playroom, with some board games and books. The garden is about an acre and a half of woodland and lawn. There's a patio with a BBQ. The River Duchray runs along the side of the grounds. You don't get any mobile phone signal here, but there is WiFi so you can make calls through that.

You're about two miles from Aberfoyle for a supermarket, a good butcher, and some places to eat. From the cottage, you can walk or cycle straight onto the forest tracks. The area is good for walking, fishing, and golf. Loch Lomond is about half an hour's drive. Stirling, with the castle, is about 25 minutes away. Glasgow is under an hour.

The facilities are all there: washing machine, dishwasher, bedding and towels included. There's a cot and a highchair if you need them. You can bring one dog. Parking is on site.
