The Stable

The Stable is in Port of Menteith, up in the hills above the lake. It's a studio cottage, so it's all one main room with the bed and living space together. A proper one-bed, for two people. It's attached to the old farmhouse, which is hundreds of years old. You've got your own bit of garden and a covered porch.

The view from there is the main thing. You look right out over the Lake of Menteith, which is Scotland's only actual 'lake'. You can see Inchmahome Priory on the island. It's a five minute drive down to the lake shore, or a decent walk.

Inside, it's done up nicely. Solid oak floors, granite worktops. It's got a 4 Star rating, so it's comfortable. All the bedding and towels are provided. There's a shower room, a washing machine, and parking right outside.

You can bring one dog. There's an enclosed area for them, but watch out for the little pond next to the cottage.

You're right in the Loch Lomond and The Trossachs National Park. The back door opens onto walking tracks straight into the Menteith Hills. You can join the Rob Roy Way from there. Wildlife is all over the place: red squirrels, deer, plenty of birds. There's a duck pond on the estate.

Down at the lake, the Lake Hotel does good food. You get a 10% discount there if you're staying. There's a pub about a mile away. The nearest shop is in Aberfoyle, about four miles.

Things are close by. Nick Nairn's Cook School is a few minutes down the road. Aberfoyle and Callander are about ten minutes drive. The David Marshall Lodge in the Queen Elizabeth Forest Park is good for walks and views. You can get a steamer on Loch Katrine from there.

Stirling is twenty minutes away for the castle. Loch Lomond is about half an hour. Glasgow is under an hour if you need a city, or Edinburgh is just over.
