Pond View Cottage is over at Lower Elsford Farm near Lustleigh. It's one of four cottages there, but it's its own place with a private garden and patio. You get the key and it's yours for the week. The view from the kitchen window really does look out over the pond and fields towards the moor, which is nice.
It sleeps four, in two bedrooms. Both have their own en-suite bathrooms which is handy. It's a 5 Star place, so it's very comfortable and well-finished, but it's still a farm cottage. The towels are good and thick. They leave you a cream tea when you arrive.
The farm is 32 acres. You're free to wander around. There are woods, a stream, ponds, and an area of rough moorland with some ancient stones. You might see deer or buzzards. Sometimes the farm dogs come and say hello. There are chickens about, and if you find any eggs, you can take them.
On the farm itself, there's an indoor heated swimming pool you can book slots for, a games room, and a kids' play area. There's also a firepit you can use.
Lustleigh village has a good pub that does food, about two and a half miles away. For a proper shop, you'll need to go to Bovey Tracey or Moretonhampstead, which are about five miles. You're right in Dartmoor National Park so walking starts from the gate. Hound Tor and Haytor are up on the moor, a short drive away. The Woodland Trust woods next door are good for a stroll.
For days out, Bovey Tracey has a craft centre, and you can drive down to the coast at Torquay or Teignmouth in about 40 minutes. There are two reservoirs a mile away for fishing if that's your thing.
In the cottage you've got a wood burner, dishwasher, washing machine, WiFi and TV. There's parking right outside. They can provide a cot and highchair. No pets, I'm afraid.
