Garden Cottage is one of four holiday cottages on a working farm called Lower Elsford, just outside Lustleigh village. The location is the main thing. You're in Dartmoor National Park, looking right across at the tors. The views from the fields here are really something, especially towards Hound Tor and Haytor.
The cottage itself sleeps four. Two bedrooms, both with their own bathrooms. It's got a 5 Star rating, which means it's well finished and comfortable. Everything's clean and there are towels and things provided. You get a cream tea when you arrive, which is a nice touch.
Being part of a farm complex, you share some facilities with the other cottages. There's a decent sized indoor heated swimming pool, a games room, and a play area for kids. Your own bit is private though, with an enclosed garden and a barbecue.
The farm land is about 32 acres and you're welcome to walk around it. There's a stream, some ponds, and even an ancient stone row. The chickens wander about, and you're welcome to any eggs you find. The air is very clean. You can tell by all the lichen on the oak trees.
There's a shop about five miles away in Bovey Tracey. The nearest pub and restaurant is about two and a half miles, in Lustleigh itself.
For things to do, you're right in the middle of Dartmoor. Walking and cycling is straight from the door. There are two reservoirs within a mile for fishing. The medieval village of Lustleigh is lovely for a wander. Moretonhampstead is about a 15 minute drive and has good amenities.
If you want to explore further, the coast at Torquay or Teignmouth is about a 40 minute drive. Exeter is roughly 45 minutes.
Facilities in the cottage include a wood burner, dishwasher, washing machine, TV, and wifi. There's parking right outside. They provide a cot and highchair if you need them. No pets, sorry.
