Family Lodge No. 5

Family Lodge No. 5 is one of the old hunting lodges on the Atholl Palace Hotel estate in Pitlochry. It's in a group of lodges, but you have your own space. The main living area is upstairs to get the views over the grounds. The three bedrooms are downstairs. There are two bathrooms, both en-suite.

It sleeps six. It has a 4 Star rating, which feels about right. It's comfortable and well-equipped.

As a guest staying in the lodge, you get to use the hotel facilities. That includes the indoor swimming pool, the gym, and the spa. You can also walk up to the hotel for a meal or a drink. The hotel restaurant is good, but it's not the only place to eat in town.

Pitlochry itself is a ten minute walk down the hill. It's a proper Victorian tourist town. There are shops, cafes, and the Pitlochry Festival Theatre. For walking, you're right on the edge of things. You can walk down to Loch Faskally, or into the hills. The National Trust for Scotland's Killiecrankie site is about three miles away, which is a good steep walk or a very short drive.

Around here, you're about thirty minutes from Blair Atholl and the castle, or Glen Lyon. Dunkeld and Birnam are about twenty five minutes south. For a bigger day out, you can drive up to the Cairngorms National Park in under an hour.

In the lodge: there's a dishwasher, washing machine, TV, and WiFi. Bedding and towels are included. There's parking right outside. You can bring one well-behaved dog.
