Arbeia Lodge is in Ebchester, which is right beside the River Derwent. There are just two lodges in a gated bit, so it feels private. You get that nice deck outside.
It sleeps two, one bedroom and one bathroom. The rating is five star, which means it’s got decent stuff and it’s been looked after properly. The place is all open plan downstairs, and there's a wood burner if it gets chilly.
The bathroom is very smart, with a big bath and a shower. The main thing people notice is the hot tub on the deck, which you can get into from the bedroom.
There’s a little bar and a TV room you can use on site, down in the main building, and outdoor picnic tables by the river.
You’re right next to the Derwent Walkway for walks or cycling. You can buy a permit to fish from the boat house here on site. You can organise things like canoeing from the same boat house.
You can walk to the village in a few minutes. There’s a shop and a couple of places to eat there.
If you want to drive out, Corbridge is about ten miles away. It’s a nice little spot by the river. Hexham, with its abbey and shops, is about fifteen miles north. Beamish Museum is roughly a twenty minute drive.
For bigger days out, you’ve got the whole of Hadrian’s Wall on the doorstep. It’s about a thirty minute drive up to some of the main bits, like Housesteads Fort. The Northumberland coast, like Bamburgh, is maybe forty five minutes to an hour.
Facilities wise, it’s got the wood burner, dishwasher, washing machine, WiFi, and parking. One well-behaved dog is allowed.
