Chesters Lodge

Chesters Lodge is on a country lane near Ebchester. It's one of nine lodges on the same site, but it's detached so you have your own space. You get a private garden area with furniture and a six-seater hot tub.

The lodge sleeps six across two bedrooms and has one bathroom. It's all on one level, which is good if you have young children or anyone who finds stairs difficult. It's got a 4 Star rating, so it's comfortable and well-fitted. We've kept it wheelchair accessible too, with wider doors and a level-access shower.

The main room is open plan, with a kitchen, dining and living area. There's a wood burner, a TV, and views out over the fields. The kitchen has a dishwasher, washing machine, fridge and freezer. Bedding and towels are included.

You can bring one dog.

Ebchester village is about half a mile away. There's a local shop, a pub, and a couple of restaurants within walking distance. The River Derwent is just down the lane. You can get fishing permits locally.

For walks, you're right by the Derwent Walkway. It's an old railway line, so it's flat and good for cycling. It connects to lots of other footpaths.

Within about half an hour's drive, you've got a few options. The cathedral and castle in Durham are about 15 miles away. It's a UNESCO World Heritage site and worth a visit. The market town of Hexham is a similar distance. For golf, there's a course at Consett, about three miles away, or the bigger one at Slaley Hall.

If you're interested in history, you're close to Hadrian's Wall. Housesteads Fort is a good place to start. Or you can head into the Northumberland National Park.

The coast is about 24 miles away if you fancy a day at the beach.
