The Old House
The Old House is in Mellis, Suffolk. It's a thatched cottage, detached, and it's over 300 years old. You're on a working arable farm, so you'll see the tractors going past. The garden is large and fully enclosed.
It sleeps seven in four bedrooms. There are two bathrooms. It's got a 5 Star rating, which means it's well-equipped and comfortable. It's been in my family a long time, so we've tried to modernise it without stripping out the character. You'll find exposed beams and timber floors. There's an open fire in the living room and another woodburner in the farmhouse kitchen.
The stairs are steep and uneven in places. It's an old house, so you have to mind your head on some of the beams. It's part of the place.
There's a pub about a mile away. The nearest shop is three miles, in Diss. Diss also has a swimming pool and a train station with direct links to London. Eye is another nearby market town.
For days out, the Suffolk Heritage Coast, like Southwold or Aldeburgh, is about 40 minutes by car. The Norfolk Broads are a similar distance north. Norwich and Bury St Edmunds are both under an hour's drive. National Trust Suffolk Coast has good information for the area.
Things here: parking for two cars, the enclosed garden, a BBQ, dishwasher, washing machine, WiFi, and TV. Bedding and towels are included. We have a cot and a highchair. We accept up to three dogs.
