Little Oak
Little Oak is a shepherd's hut in Kirkdale, which is just on the Scottish side of the Solway Firth. It's for two people. You're on the edge of fields with cows and sheep, so expect a bit of farm noise. The view out the front looks right over Wigtown Bay.
Inside, it's one open space with a kitchen at one end and the bed at the other. There's a separate bathroom with a shower. It's a king-sized bed. The whole thing is wooden, built from larch, so it smells like a sauna when you first go in. The wood burner is good.
French doors open onto a little deck. It's enclosed, so you can sit out there. The stars are very good here because it's dark. You're basically on the edge of the Galloway Forest Dark Sky Park.
The local beach is sand and about two miles away. The nearest shop is about the same. For a proper pub or restaurant, you need to drive into Gatehouse of Fleet, which is five miles. It's a quiet spot.
For days out, you've got the coast road, or you can go inland into the hills. Threave Garden is about half an hour away. Dumfries is less than that if you need a bigger town.
The facilities list is accurate. It has a dishwasher, WiFi, and parking right next to it. All bedding and towels are included. No pets.
