Shore Cottage

Shore Cottage is in Carsluith, right on the edge of Wigtown Bay. It was built in 1860 for quarrymen, so it's part of a small terrace. You can park right outside.

It's a two-bedroom place that sleeps four. One bathroom. It's got a 4 Star rating, which means it's comfortable and well-equipped. Because it's old and right on the beach, you should know the doors open straight out onto the shingle. The tide comes right up sometimes. It's not fancy, but it's warm and the view is the main thing.

The cottage is in a nature reserve. You'll see oystercatchers and lots of other birds from the window. Carsluith Castle is a ruin just up the road, and there's a smokehouse bistro there. Creetown has another smokehouse and a good fish shop with a cafe.

Newton Stewart is the nearest proper town, about ten minutes by car. It's got supermarkets, a few places to eat, and a cinema. For walking or cycling, you're close to the Galloway Forest Park and the 7Stanes mountain bike trails at Kirroughtree. There are plenty of golf courses around too.

If you like gardens, Logan Botanic Garden is about half an hour away. It's quite something. You can drive around the Machars peninsula to find quiet beaches and villages.

Facilities: it's got a woodburning stove, a washing machine, wifi, and a TV. Bedding and towels are included. There's a stairgate. We allow one well-behaved dog.
