Hornsea is a traditional seaside resort with an extensive sand and shingle beach; once well known for its pottery production it is now home to Yorkshire’s largest freshwater lake, Hornsea Mere, which attracts over 250 species of birds and plenty of opportunities for fishing and sailing. Rainy days are not a problem with a large, indoor heated swimming pool at Hornsea’s newly build leisure centre and two indoor soft play areas, one located at the Freeport outlet shopping centre the other the amusements on station road. The town offers a plethora of tea rooms, shops, pubs, and restaurants as well as several public parks including the Memorial Gardens and Hall Garth. The Victorian promenade also offers a selection of cafes and fish and chips shops.
A short drive will bring you to the vibrant City of Hull, here you can enjoy an evening at the Theatre, take in the vibrant night life or enjoy an hour or two at The Deep, a huge aquarium. The stately home of Burton Constable is also just a short drive away as are the unspoilt rolling hills of the Yorkshire Wolds, made famous by the artist Hockney and offering miles of walking and cycling opportunities. The market town of Beverley, which is famous for its Minster and racecourse if close by and there is also easy access for the trans Pennine trail.
