Admergill Lodge

Admergill Lodge is where you see the sign for Blacko Tower on the road between Nelson and Gisburn. It's a modern lodge, detached, built into the side of the hill. It overlooks a gill, which is the local word for a small wooded valley.

It sleeps four in two bedrooms. They're upstairs and they connect, which is good for a family but maybe less so for two couples who want privacy. You can have it as a super king and a king, or you can split both beds into singles if you need four separate beds. There's one bathroom downstairs with a roll-top bath and a separate shower.

It's a 5 Star place, which means it's well finished and everything is new. It was refurbished a few years ago. There's underfloor heating downstairs and a wood burner in the living room. The patio doors open right out onto the garden.

You're right on the Pendle Way walking route. The gill below the garden has a beck running through it. We've seen otters there, and herons. It's very quiet.

There's a pub about a ten minute walk down the lane. It serves food. The nearest shop for a paper or basics is in Barrowford, about five minutes in the car.

You're on the edge of the Forest of Bowland, which is an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. Pendle Hill is right there. The history around here is dominated by the Pendle Witch trials. You can walk from Barley up to the summit.

Within half an hour you can get into the Yorkshire Dales, or over to Haworth for the Brontë Parsonage. Skipton with its castle is about twenty minutes away. Clitheroe and the Ribble Valley are ten minutes in the other direction.

For facilities: there's a washing machine, dishwasher, WiFi, and parking for two cars right outside. Bedding and towels are included. One well-behaved dog is allowed.
