Toad Hall is in Helmsley, right in the centre of town. It's a stone cottage, over three hundred years old and Grade II listed, so it's got a lot of character. That basically means the doors and beams are low, and the stairs are quite steep and winding. You need to watch your head in places.
It sleeps four. Two bedrooms and two bathrooms, which is handy. One bathroom is on the ground floor, the other is a shower room upstairs under the eaves. The double bedroom is quite compact, but it's fine for sleeping. There's hanging space on hooks and drawers for clothes.
There's a living room with an open fire and a dining room that leads out through French doors to a patio. The garden goes up in steps from there to a walled area with a summerhouse. It's sunny and private. There's a stone shed for storing bikes if you bring your own padlock.
You can park two cars off-road at the back. Everything in Helmsley is a few minutes' walk away: shops, pubs, delis, cafes. It's a proper market town.
You're in the North York Moors National Park, so walking and cycling right from the door is the main thing. The Helmsley Castle and the walled garden are just up the road. Duncombe Park is nearby too.
For a day out, York is about an hour's drive. The coast, like Whitby or Scarborough, is about forty minutes to an hour depending on traffic.
Facilities: there's a washing machine, dishwasher, WiFi, and TV. Bedding and towels are included. The fire is open, so you'd need to bring your own wood or coal. No pets.
