Rye Cottage is a three-bedroom house in the middle of Helmsley. You park at the back and the front door opens onto the street. It's a proper market town, so there's a pub, shops, and a bakery about fifty yards away. You don't need to drive for a pint of milk.
It sleeps six. All three bedrooms have their own bathrooms, which is handy. There's one parking space on the gravel drive behind the house.
Inside, it’s been done up recently. It’s open plan downstairs, with a wood burner. The French doors open onto a small, walled patio. It’s not a huge garden, but it's private and gets the sun in the evening
Being in Helmsley is the main thing. You can walk to the castle ruins, the walled gardens, or just around the square. The start of the Cleveland Way footpath is here, which takes you past Rievaulx Abbey. That's about a three-mile round walk from the door.
You're on the edge of the North York Moors. For the steam train, you drive to Pickering and get on there. It goes through to Whitby. York is about forty minutes by car if you want a city day.
In terms of stuff: there's a washing machine, dishwasher, WiFi. Bedding and towels are included. We accept one well-behaved dog. The kitchen has a highchair if you need it, and we can put a cot in a bedroom.
