Swiss Cottage
Swiss Cottage is in Rievaulx. It’s a thatched cottage, one of the oldest in the village. It’s detached, so you’re on your own. The main thing is the view down the valley to Rievaulx Abbey. You can see it from the living room and the kitchen.
It sleeps four. Two bedrooms, two bathrooms. It’s got a 4 Star rating which means it’s comfortable and well looked after. It’s a 17th century cottage though, so the doors are low in places and the floors aren’t level. You get used to it.
The nearest pub and a small shop are in Helmsley, about two and a half miles away. It’s a nice walk if you don’t mind a hill. Helmsley has a few places to eat and a big castle.
Rievaulx Abbey is right there. You can walk to it through the fields. It’s an English Heritage site. The National Trust’s Rievaulx Terrace is just up the road too.
For a day out, you can drive to the North York Moors. It’s about twenty minutes to the edge of the park. Sutton Bank has good views. York is about forty minutes away if you want a city.
Facilities: there’s a washing machine, dishwasher, WiFi, and parking for one car. The garden is small but it’s yours to use. We allow up to two dogs. Bedding and towels are included, and there’s a cot and highchair if you need them.
