Brae Cottage

Brae Cottage is in Islesteps, near Dumfries. It's a detached cottage, so you're on your own. The garden is fenced in and the view is over fields. It's quiet.

It sleeps six, in three bedrooms. There's one bathroom. It's got a 3 Star rating, which means it's comfortable and clean. We had some work done on it a few years ago.

The living room and dining room are separate. The internet is okay, but it's the countryside so don't expect superfast. There's a washing machine, TV, and parking. You can bring one dog. Bedding and towels are included.

You're right on the edge of Mabie Forest. You can walk straight into it from the cottage. There are walking trails and mountain bike tracks, part of the 7stanes routes. There's an adventure playground and a butterfly reserve in the forest too.

Mabie Farm Park is just down the road. It's got animals and things for kids to do.

There's a pub about 500 yards away. They do food. The nearest shop is in Dumfries, about three miles.

Dumfries itself is close. It's got all the shops you'd need. From there, you can get to the coast in about half an hour. Places like Southerness or Kippford. There are castles like Caerlaverock and Drumlanrig within a 30 minute drive. The gardens at Threave are worth a visit if that's your thing.

If you're here for the outdoors, useful links are Forestry and Land Scotland for Mabie Forest and National Trust for Scotland at Caerlaverock Castle.
