Woodend

Woodend is a bungalow on the edge of Dumfries. It’s semi-detached and all on one level, so no stairs to worry about. You get a private garden out the back. It faces fields, so it’s quiet.

It sleeps four, in two bedrooms. There’s one bathroom. It’s got a 4 Star rating. It’s comfortable and modern, not old and draughty like some cottages can be.

The living room has double doors that open straight into the garden. It’s handy if you’ve got dogs or kids. Speaking of dogs, we take two pets.

You’re about a mile from the nearest shop and pub. Dumfries town centre is a short drive. It’s a proper town with supermarkets, cafes, and that. Robert Burns spent his last years here, so there’s the Burns House and Mausoleum if you’re interested.

You’re well placed for getting out. The Solway Coast is about twenty minutes away for beaches and walks. Caerlaverock Wetland Centre is a big nature reserve, good for a full day out. The Galloway Forest Park, which is a Dark Sky Park, is within half an hour if you want to go stargazing. For mountain biking, the Mabie and Dalbeattie forest trails are also close by.

In terms of what’s here: there’s parking, a washing machine, a dishwasher, and a woodburning stove. Bedding and towels are included. The TV has satellite. There’s wifi.

Useful links for planning: National Trust for Scotland Threave Garden, and Galloway Forest Park.
