Woodend
Woodend is a semi-detached cottage just outside Dumfries. It's on the edge of the town, so you've got fields out the back but you can still drive in for the shops in a few minutes.
It sleeps four in two bedrooms. Everything is on the ground floor, which is handy. The bathroom has a shower over the bath. The living area feels bigger because the doors open straight out into the garden. You can sit out there with a cup of tea and look at the view.
The garden is enclosed, so it's fine for dogs. We let you bring two. There's parking right by the cottage.
Inside, it's got what you need. A woodburning stove for cool evenings, a dishwasher, a washing machine, and WiFi. It's got a 4 Star rating, so it's comfortable and well looked after.
There's a pub about a mile away that does food. The nearest shop is about the same distance. Dumfries itself has supermarkets, museums, and Robert Burns' old house if you're interested in that.
You can get to the coast in about half an hour. The Solway Firth has big sandy beaches. Caerlaverock Wetland Centre is good for a walk, especially if you like birds. If you head inland, you're close to the Galloway Forest Park for proper forest walks and dark skies at night. The mountain bike trails at Mabie Forest are about a ten-minute drive away.
