Burnfoot Of Cluden

Burnfoot Of Cluden is a big house near Dumfries. It's about a ten minute drive from the town, but feels properly out in the country. It looks out over the River Cairn. You get the whole place to yourselves.

Sleeps sixteen. Eight bedrooms and three bathrooms. It's got a 4 Star rating, so it's comfortable and well equipped. There's an Aga in the kitchen and a wood burner in the living room. Everything else you'd expect is here: washing machine, dishwasher, wifi, parking.

The stairs are a bit steep and narrow in places. It's that sort of house.

You can walk straight from the garden onto the path along the river, Cluden Water. The Twelve Apostles stone circle is a walk away too. The garden itself is sizeable, good for kids to run around. Up to two dogs are welcome.

Dumfries has the usual supermarkets and things. There's a shop and a pub about a mile from the house. For days out, you're spoiled. Drumlanrig Castle is close. So is Caerlaverock Castle, which is a proper ruin by a wetland reserve. There's Mabie Farm Park if you've got children with you, and the coast isn't far.

Useful links if you're planning ahead: Drumlanrig Castle (National Trust for Scotland) and Caerlaverock Castle (Historic Environment Scotland).
