Butterhole Cottage
Butterhole Cottage is in Islesteps, near Dumfries. It's attached to our farmhouse. It's all on one floor, which is handy.
It sleeps four. Two bedrooms and one bathroom. It's a 3 Star place. We renovated it a few years ago so it's warm and dry, but it's not fancy. The living room has a wood burner. The front windows look out over the fields. You get a garden to yourselves.
The kitchen is small. It does the job. There's a washing machine, parking, and WiFi. Bedding and towels are included. You can bring one dog.
The local pub is about a ten minute walk. It serves food. The nearest shop is in Dumfries, about three miles away.
You're right in Mabie Forest. You can walk straight out onto the trails. The 7Stanes mountain biking routes are there if that's your thing. There's a farm park nearby with animals, which is good if you have kids.
Dumfries is close. It's got all the shops and things you need. The coast at Southerness is about half an hour's drive. Castles like Caerlaverock and Drumlanrig are within a thirty minute drive. Threave Garden is well worth a visit.
