Erriff At Caerlaverock is that terrace house on the estuary edge in Glencaple. It gets the light well. Almost every room looks out over the water.
It sleeps nine, in five bedrooms. There are three bathrooms. It's a 5 Star property, which means it's comfortable and well looked after. They allow two pets.
The living room has a wood burner, which works fine. The patio doors open onto a covered veranda, which is useful because you can sit outside even if it's drizzling. The dining table faces the view.
Upstairs, two of the bathrooms have those big, deep slipper baths. They take a while to fill but they're good for a soak.
The village is small. There's an award-winning restaurant with a shop on the quayside, about a three-minute walk. They do good food. The local pub is about a mile away.
You're on the Caerlaverock Estate. The Caerlaverock Wetland Centre is a five-minute drive. It's a big, wild reserve for birdwatching. Caerlaverock Castle is just up the road too, that triangular one. It's worth a look.
Dumfries is about seven miles for bigger shops. Castle Douglas, Dalbeattie and Kirkcudbright are all within half an hour and have good galleries and places to eat. The coast, with its beaches and bays, is about 20 miles. The Galloway Forest is good for walking and they have dark sky spots, if that's your interest.
The house has the things you'd expect: wifi, TV, washing machine, dishwasher. Towels and bedding are included. There's a cot and highchair if you need them, and a stairgate. The garden is enclosed. You can store bikes.
